Sevilla Midfielder Antonio Puerta Dies On The Pitch
28 August 2007, 12:14 PM. By Alex Ferreyra

In another example of how there are bigger things in life than sports, 22-year-old Antonio Puerta—who played for Sevilla and the Spanish national team—passed away Saturday night. He collapsed from a cardiac arrest 35 minutes into the game against Getafe, and his teammates and medical staff rushed to prevent him from swallowing his tongue. He ultimately left under his own strength, but later collapsed in the dressing room and was rushed to the hospital where authorities pronounced him dead.
The midfielder had passed a physical three weeks ago, and he was expecting a child with his current girlfriend. Let’s hope his kid won’t have YouTube access until they’re much older.
