Will This Sonics Move To Oklahoma Pity?

The new group who recently bought the Sonics are talking about moving the team to Oklahoma City, just because that’s where they live. Huh, It turns out that having lots of money does make you irrational. According to Aubrey McClendon, one of the new Sonics owners,
“We didn’t buy the team to keep it in Seattle; we hoped to come here,” he said. “We know it’s a little more difficult financially here in Oklahoma City, but we think it’s great for the community and if we could break even we’d be thrilled.”
Damn, you know you’re too rich when you can just throw around $600-million+ for a basketball franchise and be happy to “break even.”
In its defense, the home crowds last year for the New Orleans/Oklahoma City Hornets were raucously jumping. But when your home city is best known for a terrorist act and the Flaming Lips, you might have trouble attracting talent there.
If the Warriors weren’t already there, we’d suggest the Sonics move to Oakland, home of the team-moving-from-a-great-city-to-a-shitty-one. The Raiders went there from L.A., and the A’s left Philly for the Bay. But we don’t have the heart to send skinny little Kevin Durant’s there to deal with the Hell’s Angels.
