Diego Maradona recently spoke to Colombian television network Telecanal RCN about an assortment of topics concerning Argentina’s national team, his notorious “Hand of God” goal, and his nemesis Pelé. The extended interview was granted between visits from Argentina to Columbia Colombia, where Maradona is still receiving treatments to disguise years of snorting the dope. A breakdown of what the lunatic said:
On Argentina’s football club and their ‘ganas’:
- “The problem with the national team is that they are missing the “hunger for glory.” Every time I have an opportunity to talk to the team, I tell them, “the hunger for glory can’t be compared to anything else. The hunger to chase the ball never dies. It’s necessary to awaken it…” [Ed. Note: With some 'puff 'n' stuff' Diego? Is that how they will awaken it?]
On that one goal he scored in 86′:
- “My teammates askes me what they should do if the goal was put it with my hand and I said, “Come here and hug me. Let’s make reality out of this farce.” [Ed. Note: Classy.]
On Pelé and the other futboleros who weren’t screw ups:
- “If I would have embraced the president of FIFA then I’d be a part of that family. I’d be next to Pelé, [Michael] Platini, and [Franz] Beckenbauer. Today Platini runs UEFA, Pelé defends the honor of FIFA, and Beckenbauer secured Germany’s role in the 2006 World Cup Finals…” [Ed. Note: Hey Diego. Look on the brightside. Um...hold on...oh we've got it. At least you're not dead.]
