HBO has revealed that the Floyd Mayweather vs. Oscar De La Hoya fight last May made more money than they had previously expected. The fight, which Mayweather won by split decision, was touted as the fight to break all revenue records because of De La Hoya’s prowess as boxing promoter/fighter and Mayweather’s skeelz in the ring. Vatos at DogHouseBoxing reported:

“HBO said with the buys now fully accounted for, the fight actually generated 2.4 million buys and $134.4 million in domestic PPV revenue, bringing the total revenue for the event to approximately $165 million.”

And to think what the numbers would have been if Trannygate had occurred only a few weeks before.
