Spain’s Athletes To Mumble Less In The Winner’s Circle

We love the beginning of World Cup matches when the camera slowly pans over all the players singing their national anthem. But Spain’s shot isn’t as fun. Why? Because their song doesn’t have any lyrics. Have you ever seen 22 pumped Spaniards enthusiastically humming? It’s not pretty. So Spain’s Olympics Committee is running a contest to add lispy lyrics everyone can enjoy.
“For years we’ve been hearing from athletes that they feel a little lame up there on the podium,” says Alejandro Blanco, president of Spain’s Olympics Committee. “All they can do is sing along with ‘la la la.’”
Well, if that’s the case, why don’t they just add the lyrics to “My Humps?” It has the same rhythm as “la la la”
What you gon’ do with all that paella?
All that paella, huh little reina?
I’ma get, get, get, get, you drunk,
With some sangria from my trunk.
La la, la la, I love my puh-yay-ya
But, you know, in Spanish.
