This year’s Major League Baseball winter meeting, where all the teams’ General Managers meet up to make trades and get expense things like $700 steaks, is playing like a coming out party for Alex Rodriguez and his contract. But instead of a feeling like a celebration, reports out of Florida make it seem seedy, like A-Rod’s agent, Scott Boras, is negotiating a price with a john. If you change the names in the following example to those from any one of HBO’s hooker documentaries, you wouldn’t miss a beat.

Now that agent Scott Boras is done giving teams his sales pitch for Alex Rodriguez, A-Rod is ready to meet and greet.

“With regard to Alex, we got some very clear direction from clubs as to where their interest is,” Boras said Thursday after the four-day session ended. “I fully expect that with this type of player, that the owner will want to sit down and talk with him.”

But before they sit down at a bar with them, A-Rod will ask them if they’re a cop. He’s seen all the movies and he can’t afford to go to jail now.
