AC Milan Going After Andrés Guardado

European clubs are as enthusiastic about Latin American soccer players as Latin Americans are with, well, anything European, so it’s no surprise they’re looking West. Deportivo de la Coruña and Mexican winger Andrés Guardado has been in Europe for a few months, but he’s already enticed some gawks. Italian club Milan are badgering Deportivo about Guardado like an old granny asking for a rent check. Milan want Deportivo to put him up for sale so they can snag him like Manchester United did with West Ham United and Tevez. And that’s probably how it should be. Guardado transferred to Deportivo to put his foot in the door for bigger and better European clubs to come knockin’. Everyone knows it. He’s too good to play on a squad that isn’t even participating in a Euro tournament. It’s no surprise that a giant club like Milan is creepin’, but it has come sooner than most thought.
Unless you’re someone like Giovani Dos Santos, Lionel Messi, or Kaka, you’re progression towards Euro supremacy can be quite daunting. Look at Cuauhtemoc Blanco’s career in Spain. That guy lasted a whopping two years. And Kikin Fonseca? Please. His stint at Benfica FC was more like a paid vacation. Well, it was probably more of a backpacking excursion because last we checked, Benfica weren’t too easy on the budget when it came to importing players. Don’t get us started on the Riquelme ordeal. Yet, Guardado seems like the type of player that would benefit from a technical style found in Italy. He’s quick speedy, and the chicks would probably love him. He just better not pick up on the flopping and bring it back to North America because that shite spreads like the plague.
