The first leg of the Copa Sudamericana semifinals culminates in an Argentine gaucho-fest tonight, when River Plate take on domestic league foes Arsenal (not of the English variety).
Millonarios of Colombia already fell to Club América of Mexico
today, but we’ve got one more South American clash to go. It would be easy to take River Plate over Arsenal any day because Arsenal are as consistent as David Beckham’s health. Arsenal made minced meat out of Argentina Clausura champs San Lorenzo and disposed of Chivas de Guadalajara in the quarterfinals like Jose Mourinho disposes of bullying school children.

Arsenal will be up against a River Plate team that’s running on depleted star power because captain Paulo Ferrari (vroom, vroom!) is out due to suspension. Also out is striker Radamel Falcao Garcia who is helping Colombian soldiers ward off drug lords. Oh, wait, he’s on international SOCCER duty. Our bad. Don’t forgot that River Plate hasn’t won an international cup in, like, 11 years. We’re sniffin’ out a River defeat big time.
