The second leg of the MLS playoffs kicks off tonight with D.C. United taking on the Chicago Fire. MLS rookie (ha!) Cuauhtemoc Blanco is slated to start for a Chicago and who would have thought an aging veteran, without hype, would produce more for his team than someone like, oh, David Beckham? We modestly raise our hands. Yet, Blanco isn’t contending without first establishing some complaints with officials. Blanco was furious about last week’s game, which left him beaten and battered more than usual.
“I’m going to talk to people [at the Fire] so we can send a video of all these fouls to the league,” Blanco said. “I want to talk to the league and show them all the fouls. One of these fouls is going to injure me.”
Vintage Blanco. What did you expect from a guy who is notorious for diving? Yet, not too worry. His boys have his back tonight.
“You can’t keep beating up our forwards without us retaliating on their forwards. It’s not as direct as you see in baseball where you just nail them. It’s little plays that happen here and there.”
Translation: green light on D.C. United’s front line. Expect a little of this tonight, but without the cheesy music.
