While David Beckham’s out trying to salvage a spot in England’s futile Euro 2008 campaign and shooting his thong-a-thon spread, Chicago Fire striker Cuauhtemoc Blanco is looking to capture at least one trophy from his first Major League Soccer experience. The MLS nominated “Newcomer”–at least it isn’t some “Rookie Of The Year” crud–has also been nominated for MLS MVP. Not too bad for a guy who’s knees are as dependable as scaffolding holding up in a hurricane. The Chicago Fire may not have reached their goal of a finals appearance, but “Temoc” helped them dominate in the first few legs of the post season. And for a guy who usually topples over from a distant fart’s draft, “Temoc” managed to distance himself from humiliation like in previous years. Brasileño Luciano Emilio from DC United and Colombian Juan Pablo Angel of the New York Red Bulls are also vying for the top award. Still thinking Becks was a greater influence on the league? Enlighten us.
