American football players think they’re inventive, but they have nothing on Colombian soccer hero Carlos “El Pibe” Valderrama. Now the assistant coach of Atletico Junior, “El Pibe” was ejected from a game for waving cash in front of a ref who just called a foul on one of his players. Where does he think he plays, Serie A?

The former midfielder was incensed after a penalty was awarded against his side shortly before halftime. Valderrama took a bank note from his pocket — local media said it was for 50,000 Colombian pesos — and began waving it furiously at referee Oscar Ruiz. Ruiz did not initially notice but Valderrama continued to wave the note and was eventually sent off.

He’s lucky he’s a national hero because what if the mob did pay the ref off? There’d be a sandy blonde head in the middle of a Medellin street right now.
