Apparently the MLS is trying to evolve outside of the pitch now that the league is “growing.” It’s been 12 years since the conception of America’s soccer league and the MLS has put some extra pressure on owners to give up their monopolies on teams; specifically multi-team owner, AEG. Officials only want one owner per team and since AEG shells out paystubs for the Los Angeles Galaxy and the Houston Dynamo, the no-brainer would mean that Houston should be up on the market soon. Didn’t they just win a title? Who cares. Actually, Oscar De La Hoya and his crew at Golden Boy Productions care a whole lot.
Boxer Oscar De La Hoya is interested in buying the Dynamo with his company Golden Boy Productions. Representatives of the company have visited Houston, attended games and are very impressed with the way the franchise is operated along with how the team has played.
Why did this sound like the equivalent to an athlete thinking they can make it in Hollywood? Or a rapper thinking he can play basketball. Or an athlete thinking he can rap. De La Hoya’s company could probably fork over the cash, but the MLS doesn’t really need any experiments right now. Even Beckham seemed like a sure thing, and look how that turned out. Oh, right, they equate success to the amount of jerseys sold. We’re not sure how well mesh-inspired away kits will do, but bring it on.
