After Italy’s close-call against Scotland this weekend, Gennaro Gattuso wasn’t too thrilled about helping France advance to the final round of Euro 2008. The Italian caught a whiff of some comments made by French national side coach Raymond Domenech, in which the coach stated, “At least the [Italians] were useful for once” after Italy’s victory simultaneously propelled France into the latter stages of the Euro tourney. Not bowing out of an assured scuffle, Gattuso replied:

“I am proud of the qualification we have achieved with this squad,” said the midfielder after Italy’s 2-1 win in Glasgow.

“But I am really annoyed because I know we also helped France to go through. Domenech always has to say something, he doesn’t deserve to go through really. Now I hope we will play them again in the Euros and give them a lesson.”

France won’t have Zidane to headbutt anyone in retaliation this time, but we’re expecting either Italy striker Toni to insult “Scarface” Frank Ribery about his, well, scarface; or French striker Thierry Henry to lunge head first into Italian goalie Buffon’s torso while trying to score the game winner; both scenarios resulting in a midfield throwdown between Domenech and Gattuso. We’ve got five bucks saying it’ll play out just like that.
