England’s coaching vacancy has caught the eye of some interesting speculators, notably “The Special One” Jose Mourinho. He’s come out and told the FA (the ruling body of English Football) that if they want him, then all they need to do is give him a ring-a-ding ding on his celly.

“You will have to speak to the FA to see if they are interested in offering me the job,” Mourinho told The Sun. “I cannot say what I think until they say they are interested. Tell the FA to come and get me…I rule nothing out.”

This is exactly what English soccer needs: a foreign coach with some tenacity. We still think England will continue to plummet in the world rankings, and we’re not even confident they’ll make the 2010 World Cup. But if Mourinho is officially offered the gig as St. George’s General, then we can surely expect a few things:

  • Mourinho, constantly on English soil, will attend Liverpool FC and Arsenal games, only to shout and holler at Rafa Benitez and Arsene Wenger.
  • He’ll attend Chelsea FC matches and send signals to Avram Grant via puckered lips and eyebrow raises.
  • Drogba will somehow find his way into an English kit.
  • John Terry, Frank Lampard, Joe Cole, Ashley Cole will always start. Does Chelsea have their whole team on the national squad?
  • Beckham will never play internationally again. Unless it’s a charity game.

  • Come and get me-Mourinho tells FA
