We thought the whole saga concerning Juan Roman Riquelme and Villareal FC was over with last year. It must suck to have to return to a club that scorned you from existence, successfully saw to it that you left, only to see you return like an ex-girlfriend coming back for her belongings. It’s troubling actually. Since Riquelme’s been seeing as much playing time as a fourth string goalie, he’s demanded a winter transfer from his current club.

“Regarding the situation, the best thing that could happen is that we find a solution in December,” Riquelme told Punto Radio.
“I can try everyday with everybody and I do my best but I am not given the chance to play each Sunday and they continue to say that they don’t count on me.”

Sounds like the kid who mopes on the sandlot because he was the last to get picked. But what exactly is head coach Manolo Pellegrini thinking when he sees Riquelme perform valiantly when donning Argentine national team threads? In Riquelme’s words, Villareal have all but stripped him of his soul.

“The truth is that I am not considered like the other players. It is a very strange feeling for me.”

Don’t worry buddy. They’ll give you your balls [to kick around] back.
