Popstar Justin Timberlake is trading microphones for golf clubs. Timberlake is scheduled to host a PGA tour event in Las Vegas in 2008. The idea is simple. Wait, wasn’t golf all hyped up on Tiger Woods and that Singh dude? We thought they were bringing all the jocks, single moms, and all the other people who never paid attention to the sport before? Turns out this is some sort of PGA tradition. Previous celebrities to host an event were the late Bob Hope, the late Bing Crosby, and the late Sammy Davis Jr. Uh, oh.

An avid golfer, Timberlake competes in the PGA Tour’s AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am each year. According to a widely published report, he has vowed to play in a tournament as a competitor in the not-too-distant future.

“Justin is a very keen golfer and he’s playing to a very high standard now,” a source close to the entertainer said in April. “His aim is to make it into a pro event — just for a tournament or two. He practices every day, has a coach and takes his clubs wherever he goes.”

You’d think the PGA would have added “keep celebrities off the tee” to their list of banned items. There’s about a 7% chance we’ll watch. We hope John Daly shows up trashed and wails on him with a club. At least so we can write about it later. Gotta meet the quotas, ya know?
