Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa has decided to step in to decide this college football turf war between USC, UCLA and their stadiums. He wants the Trojans to play at the Coliseum long-term, and says the two need to do whatever it takes to make it happen.
But the Coliseum Commission is holding out like a jilted lover for an NFL to come back to play there after the Raiders bolted in 1994. Sure, it’s like waiting for an abusive lover to come back when you have a great suitor willing to marry your ass, but no ever said football in Los Angeles was a reasonable business. It took the mayor to break the news to the lovelorn Commission.

“While I remain committed to bringing a professional team to Los Angeles, it is time to read the scoreboard,” Villaraigosa said in a statement Wednesday. “The Coliseum is no longer a viable option for the NFL.”

Yes, we’re sure it had nothing to do with the UCLA-educated Mayor not wanting a Trojan invasion of the Rose Bowl. Uh-uh, nothing at all.
