Los Angeles Galaxy GM Alexi Lalas Tells Anyone Listening “I’ll Trade You My Best Player For Your Fat One.”

The demise of the first North American Soccer League can be attributed to three major factors: Pele, Franz Beckenbauer, and that one crazed Italian, Giorgio Chinaglia. Yeah these players enticed hoards of Americanos to indulge in the “beautiful game”, but it ended up costing owners a butt-load of money and inevitably saw the league take a dive like an Italian soccer player. That’s not stopping Los Angeles Galaxy general manager Alexi Lalas. He has unveiled plans to try and lure “El Panson” Ronaldo–currently at AC Milan in Italy–as a possible acquisition next year. Since the Galaxy already reached and surpassed their salary cap, the only maneuver that brainiac Lalas can conjure up is to ship one of his biggest names, Landon Donovan, overseas.
“It’s not only San Jose that’s interested in him. There are other teams interested in Donovan. If he wants to leave, then we can talk. If our coach [Gullit] decides he should leave, then he definitely has to go. Here, no one is permanent.”
Did he just tell Donovan to pack his bags? Don’t hire this guy as a motivational speaker. But considering his last great act was courting a $250million bench-warmer, we’re not to keen to jump on the Ronaldo bandwagon just yet.
“Ronaldo could come, just like other [foreign players]. We want to bring someone to the Galaxy that is of the same caliber as David Beckham.”
Old, injury prone and stale? This must be what teams refer to as the “rebuilding process.”
