The MLS has been plagued by endless scrutiny that the American game doesn’t have an international feel. Apparently all of those Latin Americans and ol’ geezers from Germany aren’t hacking it. So MLS team’s have been brainstorming as to what could be done to improve the perception of the game. One way? Euro-fy the stadiums. That’s what the New York Red Bulls are doing. They’ve shelled out $140 million to redesign their state of the art ballpark to give it a more European feel.

The New York Red Bulls have redesigned their stadium to cut the number of luxury suites by almost half, remove a concert stage and make sure every seat is covered by a roof, giving it a look similar to major European soccer venues, the club announced Thursday.

We’ll know if this is successful when “Ultras” (soccer fanatics) begin to take over the grandstands, smuggle explosives in their pants and unveil 50′ X 30′ banners celebrating their team. If they really want to make it European then they’ll incorporate betting windows at every gate. It’s what the Italians do. Booyah!
