Oscar De La Hoya wants to return home for his next fight. The East L.A. native wants to stage his next fight in May at Dodger Stadium against Brit Ricky Hatton. Here’s a history note: the last fight Chavez Ravine hosted was in 1963, resulted in a boxer’s death; the last time the Dodgers showed any fight was in 2005, and it cost former head coach Jim Tracy his job.

De La Hoya (38-5) and his business partner Richard Schaefer of Golden Boy Promotions have yet to officially propose the unique outdoor bout to Dodgers officials, although the probable May 3 date is open. The Dodgers are scheduled to play that day in Denver against the National League champion Colorado Rockies.

“It’s something we’d be happy to discuss with them if they give us a call,” Dodgers spokeswoman Camille Johnston said. “It’s an interesting possibility.”

Given Oscar’s history, a phone conversation’s probably not the best way to go, Camille. Unless you want to be asked what kind of stockings you have on, it’s probably best to shoot the Golden Boy an email.
