There’s nothing like a 43 year losing streak to inspire prolonged celebrations. We didn’t catch the Navy versus Notre Dame game this weekend, but we’re well aware of the craptastic season Notre Dame head coach Charlie Weiss and company are enduring. It doesn’t seem to be getting any better considering “The Fighting Irish” fell 46-44 in a triple overtime match that probably drew less viewers than a Richard Simmons’ infomercial. Nonetheless, it didn’t stop Navy from canceling classes to allow their recruits to indulge.

“We are all proud of our Navy football team for beating Notre Dame in South Bend for the first time in 43 years!” Vice Admiral Jeffrey Fowler, the academy’s superintendent, said in an e-mail to The (Annapolis) Capital. “We are all part of history because of this victory.”

Not too strip you of your victory dance Vice Admiral, but beating Notre Dame this year is like getting into the ring with Muhammad Ali present-day, laying him out, and having a parade. Maybe we’ll give a little respect when Notre Dame stops playing like a pop-warner football team.
