Sports Illustrated recently sat down with French international soccer player Thierry Henry (pictured with Tony Parker) to chat with him about all the normal crap you hear in an interview. Henry talk about his boy Tony Parker, his infatuation with basketball and disclosed his hunger for American sports. Then, the big bad interviewer asked him if he’d ever considering playing in the MLS, because obviously someone of his stature and worldwide fame would want to place his career in peril like some OTHER bloke we all know. Yet, Henry was kind enough to answer.
“I just love America, everything about it. The way you think, the sports — basketball, American football — there’s always some sports to watch, something to do. Since I was young, I’ve always had it in the back of my mind that I wanted live there. Some players want to finish their careers in Australia, the Middle East or back at the club where they started. For me, it’s America. I don’t know when it’s going to happen, I just know I’ve been wanting to do this since I was young.”
That FC Barcelona contract runs up until Henry’s at the ripe OLD age of MLS stardom. Can you imagine him sporting a Red Bulls jersey, or a Seattle…Oh shit. Here we go again with these damn fantasies.
