There’s a special kind of all-nighter going on in Argentina right now. The “Extra Mile Endurathon” is a competitive event consisting of a marathon-like stroll in which participants walk endlessly, with no finish line, for hours upon hours, with no sleep. The longer they last, the cooler they are. Someone even puts up money so they have something besides their ego to tout afterwards if they are the last person standing. Sounds like a nightmare? That’s because it was inspired by Stephen King’s “The Long Walk.”

“This urban marathon commenced last Friday…with fifty participants. They are all competing for one prize: $3,000 and the chance to participate in the grand finale next June, in New York City. This is the first time the event has been held in Argentina, but other events have been held in Barcelona (where the record of 63 hours was set), Las Vegas and Berlin.”

The craziest all-nighter we ever had consisted of a blackjack dealer, endless booze and a sushi boat. We’re betting someone goes nuts from sleep deprivation and takes on the form of that killer clown from “IT.” Isn’t the denouncing of a siesta illegal in Latin America?
