Mistresses have long been scorned as evildoers. Yet, something intriguingly peculiar has happened recently: a dynamic so magnificent it demands it’s own story. Specifically, sports mistresses are seeking fame—and acquiring more than the fifteen minutes past generations were willing to give. In a way, they are lashing back at the world that hates them by infiltrating the mainstream like a fad. They are seducing the very world that scorns them, and we’re buying into it.
Take Kimberly Bell (pictured right). She was Barry Bonds’ mistress for nine years. When her man ousted her, she decided to hit every talk show, media circle and publication to tell her story. Once that got old, titty-touting giant Playboy enticed ($$$) Ms. Bell to tell her story via nudity–and it worked. Everyone made money, there was wide scale publication and all were happy. She’s hardly a household name, but if it weren’t for Barry’s jolt, she’d still just be “the other woman.”

More recently, two of the biggest icons in sports were showcasing their mistresses like jamon legs dangling in a Spanish meat market. Remember Milana Dravnel? You know the name. But where’ve you heard it? She’s the scandalous seductress that snapped photos of Oscar De La Hoya in drag. Why hasn’t she receded into the depths of the fifteen minutes of fame abyss? Because she managed to get a reigning boxing champ into heels…smiling…and sticking his ass out like a doped up cheerleader. She received $70,000 from X17 for the photos, and revealed she went through it all to propel her modeling career to the “next level.” That sounds as savvy as any business venture “Golden Boy Productions” has ever embraced.
And it goes both ways. Only a few months after the Drag photo incident became public, “Golden Boy Productions” announced their expansion to Mexico and Britain. Simultaneously, Oscar received offers to partake in bigger fights than his career had ever experienced. In an instant, his fame rose to a greater altitude than was thought possible. (Currently, both Ricky Hatton and Manny Pacquiao have been linked to a De La Hoya throw down.) Coincidence? No. If she were taking pictures of John Rocker in drag, her front page NY Post picture would be old news after 72 hours. And that’s the truth.

Then there’s David Beckham’s gal: Ms. Rebecca Loos. After coming forward to media about their 2005 affair, Loos began to run the circuit like a circus ringleader. According to Wikipedia:

Loos sold her story to British tabloid newspaper News of the World in April 2004, claiming that they had had a whirlwind affair that included text messages of a sexual nature. The story generated a huge amount of publicity in the tabloid press, launching Loos’ career in the public eye.

Her own website cites her involvement in a UK reality television show called “Sky 1’s Cirque de Celebrite.” She eventually left the show (actually got booted off), but her stardom factor was solidified. And David Beckham: we’re sure his “sexy” factor benefitied quite a bit (Armani thong ads, anyone?).

The titillating truth is that there’s a market out there for these ladies to profit from; and they are taking full advantage of it. And why not? Athletes do the same with endorsement deals, public appearances and lucrative memorabilia signings. Just look at O.J. Simpson.
Because even when they’re not as successful as wanna-be Playboy bunny and Alex Rodriguez stripper gal Joslyn Noel Morse (pictured left), you can be certain that they’ll break through the threshold of stardom soon. Rose is certain to ride her tidal wave of fame, as the NY Post cited after her brief rendezvous with New York Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez:

Morse started stripping in Iowa soon after high school. Last year, Morse worked at Scores Las Vegas, an outpost of the famed, national strip-club chain. The diminutive damsel is a workout fanatic with a hard-cut physique who appeared topless in an October 2001 edition of Playboy’s Casting Calls.

Who wouldn’t take that route when prolific athletes like A-Rod are dishing out $5,000 a night on strippers like Rose?
Yet, the most fascinating character we stumbled upon was a weblog dedicated to the world of mistresses and affairs—specifically those of baseball players. The site is OnTheDL and it’s blurb reads:

“Think of On The DL as Page 6… but all about baseball. Read juicy blind items and let your mind ponder over which dirty major leaguer it might be. Send us your guesses and gossip! We love the baseball dirt!”

With some posts receiving over 500 comments from curious readers, all a struggling model or actress needs is a free ad to propel her name into the mainstream, right?
With the current writer’s strike going on, we’re sure some of these faces will appear on reality television after the holiday season, ready to start an affair with all of us. The truth is, we’ll be waiting with open arms.
