When you want to get things done right, you do them yourself. Our dad taught us that, but we still can’t change a tire because our AAA rates are just too damn cheap: so why bother? Yet, in an unprecedented move, Mexican international Nery Castillo has been loaned out by his Ukrainian club Shakhtar Donetsk to the land of tea and WAG’s due to his own monetary contribution. The 23 year old will play for Manchester City come January and his pockets will be a little lighter because of it.

“Nery Castillo’s desire to make this deal happen has been extraordinary,” City chief executive Alistair Mackintosh said. “He has made a significant financial contribution in order to complete this move by paying most of the loan fee himself. This proves how much he wants to play for Manchester City in the Premier League.”

We don’t have the figures on how “significant” the contribution was, but compared to fellow national teammate Memo, Castillo’s lack of slacker-tude is commendable. So pull out that checkbook if you want to head to Europe’s elite, Memo.
