English Boxer Ricky Hatton and WBC champ Floyd Mayweather Jr. are set to throw down in Las Vegas this weekend, with the winner earning a healthy purse. But Ricky Hatton has a little more to earn if he ends up splitting Mayweather’s “Pretty Boy” rep. Gareth Williams (Hatton’s attorney) was quoted in the BBC as saying that if Hatton wins, he’ll be ready to face-off with “Golden Boy” Oscar De La Hoya next year. All that pressure must be quite a drag for Hatton.

“The chances are very strong,” said Williams. “We have strong links with Oscar De La Hoya and Golden Boy Promotions and we’ve had discussions with them.”
Hatton and his team would love to stage the De La Hoya fight in Wembley, in front of 80,000 UK fans. Williams says the fight taking place in the UK make sense because it would shatter all gate and attendance records.

“It would be the perfect venue and we could look at selling in excess of 80,000 tickets,” Williams said. “Oscar has achieved everything in boxing bar recording the record live gate - and he could achieve that if he fought in the UK against Ricky.”

It would be like Ali and Frasier’s “Thrilla In Manila!” Except neither fighter is black. And England isn’t Africa. But, you know, it would be a big fight. At least England can rest assured there will be events to keep them preoccupied while the rest of Europe is feasting on the abundance of international soccer. Ha! Suckers.
