New York Yankees pitcher Roger Clemens was scheduled to speak to Texas high school baseball coaches next month, but the organization has reconsidered because of the recent Mitchell Report guillotine chop Clemens received when he was branded a cheater. We adore irony, so the fact that Clemen’s speech was to revolve around work ethic makes us chugga-lugga giggle like fat man in a red suit.
“A dark cloud has been put over Roger’s head and 99.9 per cent of the media says he’s guilty even though he says he’s innocent,” said Long, the coach at Brenham High School, located about 113 kilometres northwest of Houston. “That presents a problem for our association. It has to come first over a player or coach.”
Ok, so the appearance would be as uncouth as a Charlton Heston NRA speech after Waco, but he’s already set to speak so we say go for it Roger. The worst that can happen is a monumental booing. But Clemens needs to callous up his soul from here on out, so this is as perfect an opportunity as any to get that underway.
