Going into the past weekend, many people wondered how the Washington Redskins would honor the death of their safety Sean Taylor. Well, they decided to use the first defensive play to honor their dead teammate, going out onto the field short against the Buffalo Bills.
(Waiving to the Bills’ sidelines) THEY’RE GOING TO USE THE FIRST PLAY TO HONOR THEIR TEAMMATE.

When the visiting Buffalo Bills prepared to run their first play on offense midway through the opening quarter, the man who replaced Taylor in Washington’s lineup, Reed Doughty, stood near coaches on the sideline.

“It was important for the team to know that Sean was with us that one last time on the field,” Doughty said. “He’ll always be with us, but that was special.”

Unfortunately, the Buffalo Bills don’t have time for any special tributes. They’re here to win the game!

After watching while Bills running back Fred Jackson gained 22 yards, Doughty entered for the next play — and made the tackle.

Was it that hard to just take a knee? Considering the Bills had their own tragedy earlier this year when their teammate Kevin Everett was nearly paralyzed after a hit, we think it’s kinda screwed up to use the moment of tribute to run off a 22-yard play. At least they didn’t yell out, “Yeah, they’re a man short, let’s throw it deep!”
