Well that’s it. The Miami Dolphins have officially thrown in the towel. They dropped their 13th game of the season yesterday to the Buffalo Bills and digressed to, well, 0-13 for the year. No one seemed stunned by the loss, but reports after the game suggested that maybe the squad’s coach (Cam Cameron) was no longer going to meddle with the idea of winning games. Turns out Cameron reserved a private room for his boys to watch the Floyd Mayweather Jr. V Ricky Hatton match on Saturday night. Cameron eased up on the normal 11pm curfew (the fight went well beyond 1230am EST) he sets for road games, but in all fairness, maybe he was just trying to change things. Or not.
Players said Cameron’s decision isn’t worth reading into. It wasn’t some late-season attempt to restore camaraderie. It doesn’t mean the team has quit to the point that sleep doesn’t matter.
Instead, cornerback AndrĂ© Goodman said it wasn’t about any factors other than the obvious.
”He just got the feeling a lot of people wanted to watch the fight,” Goodman said. “It wasn’t mandatory.”
Maybe Dolphins players were trying to restore some vigor. Or, maybe they just wanted to see Hatton get his ass beat so they wouldn’t feel too bad about the romping they were going to receive in Buffalo. This is the difference between winning teams and losing teams.
