Being an international soccer star must suck during the holiday season. Sure, there’s the “you’ve gotta work” through it aspect, but they get millions to cure that. But when you’re from Brazil and playing in Turkey, we could imagine that could make a player a bit homesick. Argentina’s Carlos Tevez doesn’t have it that bad playing in England, but he decided to connect with his Buenos Aries wife and daughter by sticking a pacifier in his mouth after he scored the eventual game winner against Birmingham on New Year’s Day. Luckily for us, the Brits call a pacifier a dummy, making this heartwarming story put a bigger smile on our face-for the wrong reasons.
The dummy was to show Tevez was thinking of his daughter Florencia and wife Vanesa, who are in Argentina. The 23-year-old explained: “I have dedicated my goal against Birmingham to Florencia.
“Yesterday the image was in all the newspapers in Argentina and that is what I hoped. It means that my family will have seen it and that they will know that I am thinking of them at this time of year when, really, people should be together.”
Man, we hope thinking of them wasn’t the reason why he got tripped up on the challenge that almost broke his leg later on in the game. He’s got a family to provide for, ya know?
