All this damn Tom Brady talk that we almost forgot about the important stuff. Okay, maybe we’re a little more excited than we should be. But come on! You can never (ever) have enough international soccer going on. The rumors had been circulating that a fixture was months away, but CONCACAF officials released a statement confirming that the new Champions League-like tournament will commence in August. How’s it going to work?
The 24 Teams:
- The United States-4
- Mexico-4
- Caribbean Region-3
- Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honderus and Panama-2 each
- Belize, Canada and Nicaragua-1 each
Who Gets To Skip The Qualifiers? 8 Teams Total:
- United States and Mexico-2
- Costa Rica, El Salvador, Honduras and Guatemala-1
Preliminary rounds between the other clubs will begin in August, just in time for us to warm up for European Champions League. The group stages, comprised of four groups of four teams will begin in October and the final will be in April. The prize? A shiny roundtrip ticket to the FIFA Club World Cup. Our satellite provider just made made some new bucks and they don’t even know it yet. Can life seriously get any better?
