When we heard David Beckham was opening up a branch of his soccer training facility in Sao Paulo, we couldn’t help but chuckle. It takes balls for an Englishman to go into Brazil and tell them how to run things, soccer-wise. And to make it worse, he’s calling it “David Beckham World of Sport,” which makes it sound like he’s turning into soccer’s Walt Disney. We can’t wait for Posh Spice to put on a Tinkerbell outfit. Hey, it might be a step up.

Beckham said the facility will incorporate a scholarship program for Brazilian children that will actively outreach to schools in the region, and that the training facilities will be able to accommodate visiting soccer teams and other sports such as American football.

“I am honored to be associated with this incredible project which will build world-class sporting facilities in Brazil, hopefully having a major impact at a local level and internationally,” Beckham said in a statement.

The latest David Beckham Academy - a soccer school for youths - will be among the highlights of the new development, which also will include two golf courses, academies for golf, polo and tennis, and the Rubens Barrichello Driving Experience comprised of a go-kart track and four-wheel driving facility created by the Brazilian Formula One driver.

Jesus, what is he building, a soccer facility or Brazil’s first Chuck E. Cheese? The only thing missing in that menagerie of buildings is the Calvin Brodus Memorial recording studio. Hey, if the kids are going to train to be professional athletes, they might as well start on their rhyming skills now before it gets worse.
