Interliga 2008 Invades Los Angeles

There’s a doubleheader going on tonight in Carson, Ca and it has nothing to do with David Beckham. Wa-fucking-hoo. San Luis are set to take on BIMBO toting Monterrey and Pumas are pinned against Cruz Azul. To think it was only a few years back that Cruz Azul’s entire team had basically quit and their organization was going down the shitter. Now, they are flying high off an ugly Group showing, but if they get by Pumas tonight, that 14 year old kid of theirs could see some serious action in the finals against San Luis in the Group B final on Saturday.

• This game is being played because you can’t cancel a game, but facts are that Monterrey are already out of it and San Luis has already booked it’s place for the Group B showdown on Saturday against runners-up Pumas/Cruz Azul. At least we get to Jared Borgetti one last time before he hurts himself the regular FMF season begins.

• Now this is a match-up we like. Cruz Azul and Pumas are both tied for the second spot in Group B, but since Pumas were thrashed by a rising San Luis team, “The Cementerios” are a tie or win away from a rematch against San Luis. We’re rooting for them because any team with the tenacity and confidence to showcase some 14 year old kid is just the kind of rambling-gambling kind of team we dig.
