Interliga 2008 Group action ends tonight with a showdown between Morelia V Toluca and Club America resting their first team against Atlas. Toluca need to secure a win to have a chance of advancing, but that’s only if Atlas loses to America. This damn tournament is getting more and more confusing by the minute. The details go down like this:
Morelia V Toluca: 9pmEST: FSE

  • Morelia were knocked out of the running on day 1 (or so it seemed), but Toluca are still duking it out with Atlas for the second slot in Group A. Basically, Toluca need to pull off a decisive win against Morelia; they need an America thrashing against Atlas; and if it all adds up, the goal differential will be the ticket to a finals showdown. What the holy hell happened to simply winning and moving ahead?

Club America V Atlas: 11:15pmEST: FSE

  • It’s simple for Atlas: don’t lose. If they manage at least a tie against the ugliest jersey toting soccer team on earth Club America, then they’ll proceed to a rematch on Saturday to fight for one of two qualifying Copa Libertadores spots. It would save us all a lot of trouble if they did that.
