Who knew that religion could get people into so much trouble? AC Milan star Kaká is being questioned by the Brazilian high court because his church is in the middle of a fraud investigation. It turns out the founders of the Reborn in Christ Church have been able to buy up farms and mansions in between saving people from the evils of things like greed and gluttony. God bless ‘em.
Estevam Hernandes Filho and Sonia Haddad Moraes Hernandes, founders of the Reborn in Christ Church - an evangelical church with hundreds of thousands of followers - have been accused by Brazil police of using the faithful’s donations to buy mansions and horse farms in Brazil and the United States.
The deeply religious Kaka has previously said he makes annual donations to the church. Although the exact figures are unclear, Carta Capital said Kaka’s donations reach about US$1 million (€680,000).
The judge, Marcelo Batlouni, sent a questionnaire to Kaka wanting to know the level of friendship he has with the Brazilian couple, the magazine said.
Maybe we’ve been watching too much Law and Order, but if you have a material witness in a corruption case, shouldn’t he be interviewed in person, or at least over the phone if he’s overseas? A questionnaire? It’s nice to see the Brazilian judicial systems works in the same way McDonalds handles their customer complaints.
