Liverpool’s American owners aren’t the biggest fans of Spanish head coach Rafa Benitez. Liverpool is sluggishly hanging on to the fifth spot in the Premiership standings and if things don’t shape up in the Beatles hometown, then Benitez will be out of gig. It gets better. If the American duo of George Gillett and Tom Hicks doesn’t find a way to come up with close to $600 million (300 million pounds) before February, then their share of the club is finito. Who are they looking to save their disastrous season (if they don’t make the Champions League next year, then fo’ damn sure this is disastrous)? Ex-German national coach Hans Klinsmann.

Obviously the Americans are panicking. Everyone knows that you’re supposed to hold out until mid-February for a coaching replacement. Dissing Rafa Benitez now would be like pledging Roger Clemens is 100% guilty of doing steroids without allowing him to squirm a little more. Hey, American douchebags: Let Rafa squirm a bit.
The facts are that the American bosses are looking for a Real Madrid-esque quick fix and you should never do anything remotely Real Madrid-ian when it comes to haste. Remember that 2003-2006 trophy drought? It didn’t evolve from coherent reasoning. Klinsmann’s a decent coach, but clearing out Rafa now would cost them Champions League participation next year. A move like that would most likely have these guys singing a very different tune; and we can’t have that happen. That’s our shtip on the whole shabang; now pass the scotch.
