The BCS Might Be Settled By 1’s and O’s, Not X’s and O’s

When Ohio State and LSU lock horns (or whatever it is when a tiger and a chocolate enveloped peanut butter bite fight) for the college national championship tonight, it will be the second time the Tigers’ quarterbacks have played the game. That’s thanks to a new video game simulator that uses real OSU defensive schemes to prepare them. Unfortunately for LSU, if we know anything about video games, these two would’ve been high as a kite when they were playing. Let’s hope they remember something from the experience.
“[LSU quarterbacks] Matt Flynn and Ryan Perrilloux are usually still working on the game plan… when they fire up the Xbox these days. LSU offensive coordinator Gary Crowton has used a custom-made video game to help his quarterbacks learn to read defenses.
“What they’ve done is they put our plays into the video game and then they put in our opponents’ defenses,” said Crowton, the Tigers’ first-year offensive coordinator.
The game looks and plays just like the popular Madden NFL and NCAA football games, though all the goofy stuff such as player celebrations, cheering crowds, mascots and bands have been removed.
Um, goofy stuff? A touchdown isn’t a touchdown in Madden unless your wide receiver goes to spike the ball, but pretends it’s stuck to his hands. Now, pass the Cheetos…
