We once fell out of a lemon tree after a branch broke off, split our pants and a dozen or so lemons broke our fall. That was the culmination of our brief attempt to be adventurous. Since then, we’ve been relegated to our computer. And blogging. And watching sports all day. Now THAT’s adventure. Unless you’re Steve Truglia. He’s going to attempt a stunt that only someone on PCP would be daring enough to proceed with. Truglia is trying to establish a new world sky-diving record by jumping out of a hot air balloon at 120,000 feet.
He will freefall for seven minutes before opening his parachute, and could break the 770mph sound barrier as he hurtles towards the ground. No human has ever travelled at such a speed outside an aircraft — and Steve has no idea how his body will react.
He will need a pressurised space suit in temperatures of -100°C and risks going into an 800 revolutions per second spin.
We don’t think the human body can vaporize at that speed, (like we really know), but skin stretching and that much pressure, ahem, on the gonads doesn’t sound fun. So why is he doing it?
“It’s the last great challenge left on Earth.”
The last greatest challenge on earth is to get the Chicago Cubs to win a pennant. But this sounds great as well.
