You know that nasty feeling you get right before a “Heroes” scene that’s about to unveil Hayden Panettiere performing one of her “I can’t get injured because I’m indestructible” stunts and bones, guts, blood or whatever else are about to protrude out of her? That’s the feeling we got right before the only replay was shown of Eduardo Da Silva’s broken leg. The incident occurred earlier this morning (EST) during Arsenal’s match against Birmingham. Birmingham defender Martin Taylor came out quite ruthless and in the third moment of the match, stormed into Eduardo Da Silva and was short of severing his damn leg with his cleat.
The match was held up for nearly eight minutes as the Brazilian-born Croatia international was treated on the field before finally being carried off on a stretcher.
Taylor was shown a straight red card but Wenger feels the defender should be punished further for the challenge which is likely to rule Eduardo out of this summer’s Euro 2008 finals.
“The tackle was horrendous and I think this guy should never play football again. He has got nothing to do on a football pitch,” Wenger said.
There’s isn’t a video available, but here’s a photo recap for those in the States that were unable to catch the game this morning. Take a close look at the left leg’s awkward break at the ankle.
