Javier Clemente must be the really adventurous type. The former coach of the Spanish national soccer team has decided to apply his wares in Iran, which is hoping to set aside its quarter-final exit in last year’s Asian Cup and make it to a second straight World Cup. This is after Clemente coached the Serbian national team for two years. Man, someone give this guy a job in Barbados or some place sunny where four walls in an apartment isn’t a luxury.

Clemente will take charge of Iran for their 2010 World Cup qualification campaign and he is looking forward to the challenge.

“Yes, I’ve accepted the offer,” Clemente told Reuters on Monday. “My aim is to help Iran learn and improve as a team.”

“Last week’s visit to Iran went well and it has been decided that I will go back and forth between the two countries in order to coach the team.”

A-ha! We knew there was some catch. Hate to break it to you, Javier, but teaching over the internet barely works for college kids. There’s no way your guys in Tehran can learn formations over a DSL line.
