Juan Roman Riquelme Is So In Right Now

Boca Juniors will forever revere their mythically crack-tillian magistrate known as Diego Maradona for his loyalty to their club. The luster Maradona brings to the impoverished surrounding of Boca Juniors will always be remembered, admired and embraced. But the times be changing and people are voting. They vote in Argentina? ANyway, Boca Junior fans have made it clear that Juan Roman Riquelme is now their favorite bearer of greatness. Well, that’s if this silly poll holds up to be true for the next month.

Maradona, who has battled drugs and weight problems for several years having inspired Argentina to the 1986 World Cup trophy and then to the 1990 final, polled just 26.42percent while 29-year-old Riquelme received 33.37percent of the 65,160 fans that have already voted.
“It makes me really happy that the Boca fans have so much affection for me,” said Riquelme, who joined Boca at the end of November from Spanish First Division side Villarreal.
Maradona, formerly untouchable as the Boca fans sweetheart having had two spells at the club including winning the league title in 1982, can still win the poll as it has another month to run.

No word yet from Maradona since he’s got bigger fish to fry. You know, like fighting Pele for the title of greatest soccer player, ever.
