Oscar De La Hoya has let it be known that after the next year, in which he’ll fight three times, his boxing career will be over. This will be after he takes on Contender figher Steve Forbes (who, much to our chagrin, is not the former Presidential candidate and rich guy Steve Forbes) on May 3, and Floyd Mayweather in a rematch of last year’s split decision. That is of course, if either doesn’t get split in half during Wrestlemania.

“I’m at that stage of my career now where I can’t take it further,” the 35-year-old De La Hoya said Tuesday. “I can’t go on for the next two years, three years. It’s just time to hang up the gloves.

“This is the perfect moment for me to hang up the gloves and be one a few, or maybe be the only one, to do it right. I don’t want to be categorized as an athlete who retired too early, then had to come back and fight one more time… I really want to go out with a big bang.”

Dude, that’s easy to do–fight in some pumps. And if your last opponent’s beating your ass, just whip out your purse and start whomping the guy over his head with it. They’ll be talking about that shit for ages.
