Pau Gasol Traded To The Lakers For Kwame Brown And Salary Cap Pieces

Mitch Kupchak has been earning his paycheck lately. He just pulled off a major move, getting former Rookie of the Year, All-Star and Spaniard Pau Gasol from Memphis for the underachieving-is-too-good-of-a-word-for-him Kwame Brown and some other pieces that will put Memphis under the salary cap. Hm, there’s nothing like a nice desperation trade to get the buzz back into the NBA during Super Bowl week.
The Lakers have acquired forward-center Pau Gasol from the Memphis Grizzlies for center Kwame Brown, guard Javaris Crittenton and a series of draft picks between the two teams…
Gasol would fill in at center until Andrew Bynum returns from a knee injury sometime in March. Gasol could then slide over to power forward when Bynum returns.
That’s an embarrassment of riches for a team that was picked in the pre-season to place somewhere in the dregs of the Western Conference. Oh, and Jason Kidd—you should unpack your surfboard now.
