It looks like soccer fans in Houston are getting tips from their Oakland Raider buds. Two fans were shot as they strolled out of Reliant Stadium after the Mexico-USA match ended with 2-2 tie. Why? It was either because they were chanting “Mexico, Mexico” coming out of the stadium, or because the shooter’s car was pelted with a beer bottle right before. It’s hard, but we’re going to go with B.
After the U.S. and Mexico game ended, a man got out of a vehicle and fired two rounds into a large crowd, striking Raul Edgar Belmon, 28, and Manuel Elgua, 36, as they left the west entrance of the stadium, authorities said.
“It’s hard to tell whether these two guys were even the intended target of the suspect if the suspect was firing into a group of people because a beer had been thrown at the car or some other reason,” [HPD spokesman John] Cannon said.
Oh Jesus, people, do we have to act out 1836 all over again? If we remember our Texas history right*, that got started when an American guy’s horse carriage got hit with a beer bottle thrown by some guys chanting “Mexico, Mexico.” History’s repeating itself is all.
