Vladamir Guerrero Needs A Whaaa-mbulance, Doesn’t Want To DH

We don’t understand why some players detest being the Designated Hitter. We see it as a perfect opportunity every couple of days to just hit the ball without having to do any of that extra work and quite possibly, get drunk in the clubhouse. But some “competitors” like Vladamir Guerrero feel like they need to give 100% to the team. But when your team feels like your legs might fall off chasing a routine fly out, maybe it’s time to drop that to 85… maybe 80%.
Guerrero reported to spring training for a physical Tuesday, a day before position players were due. He shook his head no when asked if he was interested in logging more time as the DH.
Not talking, huh? Is he going to hold his breath until his parents give him back his toys, too? Lucilky for him, he’s got one of those hippie, touchy-feelie coaches in Mike Scioscia.
“Nobody is talking about a full-time DH,” he said. “I think Vlad understands the luxury we have when he comes in and the legs are a little stiff that he’s still going to get at-bats. We’ll work through it.”
Um, we get a little stiff when a good wind blows. Vlad at this point isn’t stiff… he’s calcified. The Angels should get ready and invest heavily in Epsom salts now.
