Things were to get a lot brighter for Mike Bibby when he was traded from the Sac-Town Kings to the Atlanta Hawks. We’re not sure how exactly, but it sure brought in some seriously good money to Bibby. He’s made about $13 million this year and will end up making $14 million next year. Suddenly, we feel small. Yet, Mike felt that his reputation as a prolific NBA star would ensure him some freebies for his car. More specifically, he thought some reality show wannabes would refurbish his 1973 Chevy Caprice for an absolutely ridiculous low price: free. Um, no.
In the lawsuit, Bibby claims 212 Motoring told him they would pimp out his 1973 Chevy Caprice for free. Why free? Because the auto shop was trying to score a reality show tricking out old school cars — and Bibby’s was the perfect vehicle to feature on the program.
212 Motoring, which is co-owned by former NBA player Jerome Williams, claims Bibby knew the deal — nothing’s free, even noting two different estimates in the lawsuit, and with a total bill $78,000.
Herman Frank, the lawyer representing 212 co-owner Harry Shasho, says, “I am disappointed that a super successful role model like Mr. Bibby would be attempting to obtain automotive service for free, and insisting that it was provided on a free basis, when in fact it was not.”
Athlete’s proclivity towards getting free shit is an innate characteristic, right? Mike should have employed a barter system: free tickets for a free muffler…and speakers…and a paint job that doesn’t resemble graffiti.
