Imagine if your employer guaranteed you a phat salary and then gave you the option to work whenever you desired. We’d be off in Florida drinking Tecate at 8am and screwing our daily quo…Oh wait. Anyway, Luis Figo decided to abstain from any soccer playing this week because of a nagging whoknowswhat. We’ve had that. It hurts. During Tuesday’s Champions League match against Liverpool, Figo was to be subbed into the match, but apparently refused. Naughty.
Mancini called Figo towards him, but twice the Portuguese winger pretended not to hear the calls from his coach.
Mancio then turned to assistant boss Sinisa Mihajlovic, who said clearly, “I will not go there [to go and get him].”
After the game Mancini tried to deny that Figo had refused to play.
However the understanding in Italy is that this is not what happened. At the final whistle Figo was so furious that he left the stadium without uttering a word, or even offering any eye contact to journalists.
This is all fascinating, but we thought Luis Figo retired already. Maybe it’s time.
