The Los Angeles Marathon was held yesterday morning in prestine weather that us dwellers of New York scoff at and a young 28 year old Russian gal by the name of Tatiana Aryasova stole the show by beating out her competition by five whole minutes. Was she racing the obese? Anyway, she managed to collect $100,000 prize money because she was the first person to cross the finish line, even though her time was well off the pace of the men’s winner, Kenyan Laban Moiben. All of this coming only a few months after Tatiana gave birth. We can’t even hit the pitch after a nasty bout with a hangnail so kudos for making us look like weasels, Tatiana.
If that weren’t mesmerizing enough, something happened during the LA Marathon that’s not supposed to happen:
There were some interesting - and harried - moments when the wheelchair competitors caught up with the bike race, something that’s not supposed to happen [Ed Note: See?]. Luckily for all competitors, they managed to maneuver around each other with no incidents.
No offense to bicyclists racing during the marathon (is that how it works?), but either running it, or wheelchairing seems nobler to us lazy asses. Unless there were a Dakhar style dune-buggy race going on simultaneously as well.
