Tecmo Bowl Is Back From The Grave

While everyone was glued to their TVs watching the NCAA (and wondering where we’re using our bracket sheet as kindling), this wonderful piece of information was released. It looks like that quintessential original Nintendo sports game Tecmo Bowl (pipe down, Baseball fans) is being remade for the Wii and the DS systems. Oh happy day…
But while we’re ecstatic about the return of Bowl, we’re also weary because of the place that the game holds in our hearts. Growing up, there was no video game character—not Mario, Zelda, Rygar or either of the Contra guys—that could completely decimate their competition more than the Raiders’ Bo Jackson could. A sample of his work:
So here are the players who we feel could possibly fill the shoes of one Bo Jackson in the new Tecmo Bowl. Remember, we said possibly, so save your wrath when you hit the comments…
- Adrian Peterson (MIN): Dubbed Purple Jesus by the masses, this second-year player appropriately leads this day-after Easter post about the resurrection of Tecmo Bowl. The only problem is that he’s too fragile, a trait that dates back to his days at Oklahoma. We’re afraid that if one electronic cutback and we see the digital ambulance.
Odds: 1-2 - LaDainian Tomlinson (SD): If the game-makers are going to make the New England Patriots the best team in the AFC, there’s no way LDT (sorry, when talking comparisons with the originial Tecmo Bowl, the only LT is Lawrence Taylor) can prevail. He might make it the 50 on a breakaway but will stop and complain once Bill Belichick comes into view.
Odds: 1-5 - Reggie Bush (NO): Anyone who can survive this hit from the Eagles’ Sheldon Brown has to have some say in the matter, doesn’t he?
Although, rolling around on the ground does give us a bit of pause.
Odds: 1-25 - Anyone on the Denver roster: Yeah, Broncos coach Mike Shanahan using three running backs doesn’t give either Travis Henry, Mike Bell or Selving Young enough reps to build up enough endurance to run like Bo once did. Besides, to follow up a Raiders’ legacy with a Bronco is tantamount to blasphemy.
Odds: 1-500
