It’s good to know the Beijing Olympics won’t be riddled with stories of horrible toilets and pollution. News coming out of Los Angeles that twin brothers named Oscar Molina and Javier Molina are aiming to be the first set of twins to compete in the Olympics by way of varying countries. To make Lou Dobbs proud, the 18 year-old Commerce, Ca bros will be waving the flags of Mexico and the United States of America. Javier Molina cruised through his 141 pound weight-class in trials last August and became the US champ, but at the risk of fighting his brother–which the family has scrapped from ever happening–Oscar Molina was pressured to fight in the 152 weight-class. He failed to make the US team, losing by one point to his opponent. Thanks, family.

Rather than wait four more years, Oscar–along with his father–decided to enlist with the Mexican team, where he could fight at his desired 141. Oscar annihilated his opponents and is now donning a Mexican uniform.

“This wasn’t handed out to us,” said Oscar, who has been training in Mexico. “We fought for this like anyone else. We earned this. But it’s a little weird. Seeing him on another team and I’m here in Mexico.”
In the melting pot that is Southern California, where many families keep their home in one country and their heart in another, the twins’ rare accomplishment has drawn little notice.
“Until people started bringing it up, in all honesty we never thought about it,” said Roberto Luna, the twins’ coach at the Commerce Boxing Club. “Someone might not like the idea that they’re both from the United States and one of them is representing Mexico. We never looked at it like that. We always looked at it as a boxing opportunity.

We’re not familiar with the Olympic boxing tables, but isn’t there a possibility that these two may meet up in the ring anyway? Last we checked, the 141 weight-class doesn’t allow two gold medals. Whatever. We’re cheering for Oscar because he had to fight the fatter dudes, and that doesn’t sound fair.
